New York Stock Exchange from two blocks away, 05/04/07 by Gary Dunaier

Is there any question just how tough times are getting? If you do have questions, just turn on the television and tune into CNBC and see how the stock markets here in America as well as overseas are reacting. The stock market is not the only market that is lousy these days though. The housing market is crashing HARD and the credit market is following suite. But with hard times come opportunities. Opportunities to make money by putting on your thinking cap and finding companies that will stand the test of the economic downturn and possibly even flourish in them.

Consider than three fast food giants that are publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in McDonalds (MCD), Burger king (BKC) and Yum Brands (YUM). Now we all know who McDonalds and Burger King are, but in case you don't know, Yum Brands owns and operates fast food restaurants such as KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Long John Silver and A&W All American Foods (source: finance.yahoo.com). It is in such tough times that these three may mot just do well, but very well.

As of this writing (October 27, 2008) the Dow and NASDAQ are nearing 5 year lows. Everything is getting sold off and I do mean everything. But these three companies seem to be holding up better than the rest of the market. McDonalds closed the day at 51.76 which is not even close to it's 52-week low of 45.79. Burger King closed the day at 17.20, which is just a tick off it's 52-week low of 17.08. Yum brands finished the day at 26.24 also nicely away from it's 52-week low of 22.51 and closed up $0.22 in a day where most of the market was down notably (source: finance.yahoo.com). While it may not seem like a ton, they are considerable off their lows (with the exception of Burger King). But it's going forward into the inevitable tougher times that these companies can really see some improvement.

After a while all the panic selling in the stock market will subside and the prudent investors will once again re-enter the stock market and seek companies that are going to make money. While the American people as a whole will spend less on things like going out to eat and entertainment, they will never the less spend money. The average family that used to go to a fancy restaurant once per week may not visit the fancy restaurant, but they still are going to want to go out. Enter fast food.

Families will view time together at McDonalds or Burger King as better than no time together at all. Besides, everyone wants a break at times from cooking. So these companies that were once considered a quick choice (and possibly the last resort), will now become the preferred (whether forced or not) dinning establishments of Americans. To those of you reading this, please do not run right out and buy the stocks that are featured in this article. Instead, do some research of your own, which may include you talking to your financial advisor. But keep in mind, with the months and possible years of hardship to come, ask yourself where you and your family will be dinning this weekend. Then remember that most of us Americans are in the same boat.

Ramp Omellete by Plantains & Kimchi

Today this recruit was part of a group that was chosen to take a tour of the base. The drill instructors told us it was called the RAMP program. I am not sure what it stands for but it was explained that it was for recruits who are highly motivated, not so motivated and those who are borderline either way. The goal is to show us that there is life after boot camp and that we can survive it. Personally, aside from the sand fleas this recruit is having a great time.

We went to see the gas chamber, rifle range, confidence course, where the Crucible begins and a variety of other places. They even took us to see one of the fleet Marine's quarters to show us what it would look like living in the barracks. The barracks aren't very big at all. Each room holds up to four people, not a lot of space. Each Marine has their own closet area and shares a bunk bed. Only the very basics can fit in one of these rooms. All I can think about is where am I going to put all my furniture? I wonder if I will be able to qualify to live out in town housing when I get to the fleet.

As for the gas chamber, it looks intimidating. Just a small building with four concrete walls and windows. I am still trying to figure out how I will perform when the time comes. You can hear a lot of horror stories from others, mostly told to build the hype. All I have to do is keep my eyes straight ahead and do what I am told. At least that's what I'm banking on.

Anyway, it felt motivating to know that they had chosen me as one of the recruits to go along. Each day feels more and more exciting than the one before it.

Day two of the RAMP program and this time we were taken to a graduation that was happening on the parade deck. It gave me chills. The graduating class was dressed in their Service Alphas marching in sync. So much discipline in each of them. It was difficult to imagine that my platoon would be marching along that same parade deck several weeks from now. We can barely all walk in the same direction at the same time much less look like these new Marines.

I keep visualizing that day for myself with my friends and family all watching. There is little opportunity to do much of anything on your own while here but I have managed to write down a list of friends and family I want to invite to my graduation party when I get home. Along with that list is a longer, more detailed list of food that I want to have at that party. Now that's what's really important! They all somehow start with chocolate.

We were allowed to stand on the edge of the parade deck and watch the ceremony. Threatened of course with our lives if we so much as made a sound, but still able to watch. It made me excited for the future. Of course for graduation but the future of my career in general. Where would I end up? What will I be doing?

This was the last day for the RAMP program. I was glad to be a part of it. Looking forward to what tomorrow has in store for us.

Stock Market Money Exchange by vhenley

It is apparent to anyone watching the stock market, the falling AIG stock price, the potential for the Lehman Barclays deal, and a possibly disastrous AIG bankruptcy, that consumers are afraid to lose what is left of their nest eggs.

In the wake of a tumbling Dow Jones, hushed whispers of a stock market crash and frantic activity at the New York Stock Exchange, Wall Street mavens are calling for the Fed to cut interest rates in a last ditch effort to overcome Bank of America stock prices -- and Merrill Lynch as well as Morgan Stanley stock price doubts -- with a shot in the economic arm.

Stock Market Analysis

Stock market analysts claim to know what ails a floundering Wall Street: the aftermath of the mortgage crisis. USA Today reports that the seemingly unprecedented drop in the stock market is due to the precarious fiscal empires of Lehman Bros, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, Countrywide, and even Merrill Lynch finally toppling.

As the DOW took a 504 point nosedive, other companies are being sucked down the spiral as well. The Street pulls no punches as it details the downgrading of insurer AIG stock prices. Once known as AIG Valic, AIG stock prices join Con Edison, Eli Lilly, and even PG&E stocks; investors are eyeing the Dow Jones and worry about another stock market crash.

The British Are Coming, the British Are Coming!

The news is not all bad, however, since across the pond there are some signs that foreign investors are taking a closer look at America's floundering Wall Street. According to the Associated Press, London's Barclays PLC is making overtures to buy some of the assets Chapter 11 bound Lehman Brothers has for sale. Whether or not advantageous for Lehman, Barclays' interest might inject some much needed capital into the transaction.

As rumors of an AIG bankruptcy send not only its stock prices but also associated industry stocks -- such as the Merrill Lynch stock price and also Morgan Stanley stock price - onto a topsy turvy course, it bears remembering that the much feared New York Stock Exchange Black Monday is not a new occurrence.

A Brief History of Time

As a matter of fact, even recent history shows a cyclical appearance of Black Monday responses to late Friday company press releases and weekend world news. For example, the Black Monday Wall Street jitters that rocked the stock market yesterday occurred in the wake of Lehman Brothers' Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing and also the news that Bank of America had acquired Merrill Lynch.

Take for another example January 21st, 2008. Even as there was no trading on Wall Street itself due to the federal Martin Luther King, Junior holiday observance, stock market movers and shakers were not idle and watched with apprehension the tumbles of India's and also Hong Kong's stock indices.

KPTM Fox 42 quotes the Associated Press account that points to the combination of international fiscal shenanigans and a serious doubt over the Bush Administration's economic stimulus package that led to an investor led run on Wall Street on the next trading day. A scant day later, BBC News reported of a stock market recovery in the wake of an interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve.

The BBC pointed out that even spiraling commodities markets quickly recovered and once again picked up appreciably.

2008 a 1987 in Disguise?

21 years prior to this occurrence, there was another Black Monday that sent the stock market reeling. During the onset of the holiday season on October 19th, 1987, the Dow Jones Industrial Average went down by more than 22%. The Motley Fool put together a stellar account of the year 1987 and a snapshot of the stock market which, at that time, appeared to be plagued by fraud, and empty promises.

Sent over the edge by the 10-19 shelling of the Iranian oil platform located in the Persian Gulf, the Motley Fool concludes that it was not a single event, but instead a series of seemingly only tangentially related incidents that - much akin a slow fuse to a powder keg - finally set off the explosion.

Back to the future, today is not really that different from 21 years ago. A series of unfortunate events, speculation driven transactions, poor planning on the parts of consumers, corporate greed, and a failure to put down the governmental foot a lot sooner on haphazard corporate accountability have brought America's chickens home to roost (maybe this is what Jeremiah Wright was talking about?).

The worst thing you could do right now is place all of your nest eggs into one basket, while the best thing to do is to diversify your investment portfolio, keep a good chunk of cash in an FDIC insured high interest savings account, and then hold on for the ride. If your blood pressure permits, get in on the action and speculate, but you stand a good chance of losing your shirt.

Computer technological innovation is now probably the most potent tool within the world of art and media. Increasingly more companies are opening jobs for graphics designers who can perform several computer-related tasks. Web designers are very in demand globally, their work is

Bravo has another new reality competition show called Top Design. Top Design spotlights twelve of the country's hottest new interior designers, artists, and architects, who will draw upon their creativity and expertise in order to create the 'Top Design" each week. In their first challenge, the designers are paired up in teams of two and must create an inner sanctum for a mystery celebrity who turns out to be actress Alexis Arquette. These designers must create an inner sanctum around five objects that belong to Alexis Arquette. The host of Top Design is Todd Oldham and the judges are interior designer, Jonathan Adler, Editor and Chief of Elle Décor, Margaret Russell, and interior designer Kelly Wearstler.

Goil and Elisabeth won the inner sanctum challenge because of their interesting and creative room that included a blue swing and a sand box. Also, this inner sanctum there was the whimsical accent piece of a bright yellow pepper. However, Heather and Lisa lost this challenge and were sent home because their inner sanctum for Alexis looked too much like a Chinese restaurant.

One very creative episode of Top Design involved designing bedrooms for a group of clients. The designers believed that their clients were going to be adults however, as always; there is a twist to this challenge. What would reality television be without a twist. The twist to the bedroom design challenge was that the bedrooms had to be designed for children. One of the bedrooms was designed for a future actress and one of the bedrooms was designed for a future artist. Erik won the child's play challenge for designing a playful pirate inspired bedroom. John was sent home because his child's room had no floor.

In episode six which was titled Life of the Party, the designers were broken up into two teams of three to design competing party spaces for Bacardi Limon to entertain guests from Elle décor magazine. There were many lemons used in the creations of both rooms due in large part to the sponsor of the party Bacardi Limon. In addition, one of the party rooms was painted yellow. Even though, it was a team challenge, only one person was sent home. That person was Erik because he didn't contribute much to his team's room design.

The design competition gets cooking with the episode called Chef's Choice. In this episode, Top Chef's head judge, Tom Colicchio asks the five remaining designers to create and design a chef's table for Tom's new restaurant featuring dishes made from the finest natural ingredients. The Chef's table has to be created and designed by combining elements of nature and elements of the arts and crafts movement in the world of art and interior design. The winner was Andrea because she used beautiful natural wood for the Chef's table and chairs. She also used leaves as placemats. The loser was Michael because he had too many chairs that were uncomfortable and the rug he placed in the room was an eyesore.

In episode eight of Top Design, the four remaining designers have to create guest suites in the Viceroy Hotel in Los Angeles. The inspiration for the design and creation of the suites came from the four elements of earth, fire, water, and air. Matt had to design a suite based on water as an inspiration. Matt won because his light blue walls looked like cool and calming water. In addition, all of Matt's designs in the suite looked like shimmering water. Goil was eliminated because his suite looked too much like fire.

In the season finale of Top Design Matt and Carisa must design the interior of a house, which involves two 1,700 square foot lofts in Los Angeles. The winner of Top Design received 2007 Acadia vehicle, from GMC, an editorial feature in Elle Décor Magazine, and a chance to showcase their design skills at Elle Décor's Dining by Design in New York City. Stay tuned for the second season of Top Design.

Chpt6-SecD: Tips On Keeping Track of Your Stock by palynp

One of the biggest concerns for shareholders is the value of their shares. Shares of stock, after all, are only worth as much as the company who offers them. Share price (in a very broad sense) is determined by the market value per share divided by the earnings per share of the company. Price Earnings Ratio.

Another important factor to consider is the number of shares outstanding in any one particular stock. If there are 4 billion shares outstanding; the value of the stock is going to be a lot more weighed on than if there are 300,000. The availability or lack-thereof strengthens or weakens the strength of the stock's value. When the value of a stock is dragged down by the availability of too many shares, this is called dilution.

Dilution is a real problem for penny stocks. Penny stocks are usually struggling companies who are trying a new business or up and coming stocks that have yet to prove themselves in their industry.

Just because a penny stock has a new product or service doesn't mean that it's destined to fail. The internet, new medical processes, new business paradigms, and smarter ways of getting old processes done are often what penny stocks are all about. If you have done your due diligence and you believe in the future of what your penny stock is all about, then you should invest in this company. However one of the biggest causes for concern is going to be if and when the company begins introducing too many shares to market, causing price deprecation from dilution.

Penny stock investors need to be wary of apocalyptic scenarios from less prudent temperaments. Dilution is often misdiagnosed by some in the financial services media and even in the chat rooms and financial discussion boards. If a company has issued new shares to market and these shares are gobbled up by smart investors who see the same promise in this company that you do, the impact on long term share value will ultimately be small.

What many companies do to raise money is issue new shares. Once the company has deals which are locked in place and the money is in hand, they will execute a buyback or a reverse split to reduce the number of outstanding shares by 10, 100, 1000, or even more.

Introduction of new shares to market can cause initial dilution. But if the product or service your company is bringing to market is worth enough to consumers, then cooler heads will rule the day and your stock will eventually recover and rise.

4 Trading and investing Strategies You'll Adore!

stock market online game by b.tzachi

Everyone is looking for opportunities to make more money and build multiple income streams to have passive income in this era of economic instability and period of job insecurity due to mass retrenchments.Hence, a lot of work from home schemes for housewives, internet marketing as well as affiliate programs become hot and popular avenues for people to seek passive income.

I believe that one of the potential business that could drive passive income is stock trading. Stock trading has the various characteristic of a flexible home business and could potentially be a lucrative business.

The few characteristic of stock trading :

(a) Flexible Work Time - Well, it is not really flexible literally although you do have much flexibility than most work. If you are a day trader, you still have to trade during the trading hours when the exchanges is open to make your income, but you do have the flexibility of working from home in this internet age where electronic trading is popular.

(b)Low Capital Investment - Most people believe that you need a lot of capital to start a trading business. However, if you delve into the details, you will find that you actually do not need a lot of capitals for trading. Trading is not investment. The primary difference is the time frame. In trading, you want to make the most percentage gain for your capital in the shortest time to limit exposure to market. Investment takes a longer time horizon to achieve the gains and generally, the investor should not be monitoring the equities on a day to day basis. The idea of investment is to let your money make money. For trading, the trader have to make money with money so considerable time and effort is needed to monitor short term trades.

Take an example :

A trader with capital of $10,000 trades to gain monthly 10% on his capital by making multiple short term trades in a month. In 12 months, the trader will have more than double his original capital.( of course, the trader must have some skill levels to maintain consistent profits.)

An investor may look at gaining 10-20% by investing $10,000 in a quality stock for 12 months and reap the returns. The investor don need to actively enter the market for profits.

(c)Low Entry Barrier - The trader need to pick up the skills of trading as well as a small capital for trading. There are many programs in the market that teach trading. The person just need to have the interest and willingness to invest time to learn trading to gain consistent and moderate returns.

Stock trading can further be divided into short, mid and long term. All three time frame require different strategy and skill levels to achieve income as well as wealth.

Stock Trading as a business is definitely not a get rich quick scheme. The person need to build up the proper skills to trade over time to deliver consistent income. But the most important of all is the right mindset to manage emotions during trading as well as the skills of risk management.
I believe that stock trading can definitely be part of a wealth strategy to deliver a stream of passive income.

Appliance Repair For Any Room In The House Internet Advertisements For Appliance Repair Employees

Appliance Repair in JACKSONVILLE, FL by appliancehub

Appliance repairs are expensive. On the other hand, so are new appliances. Used appliances cost less, but then you are faced with repair costs again to keep them running. It's a vicious circle, but one we can break by doing our own appliance repairs.

Before the advent of the Internet, especially the World Wide Web, do-it-yourself appliance repair was problematic to say the least. Manuals were expensive, if you could find them at all, and parts were often hard to locate. I found myself doing a lot of figuring it out as I went - not always the best strategy for machinery repair.

Now, though, there are a wide range of resources available online for the do-it-yourself repairman. This article will guide you through some of the options. Though it is by no means an exhaustive list, there is plenty here to see you through to saving money by fixing it yourself.

The Good (Recommended)

American Appliance is my first stop for appliance repair information. The best features of this site are the diagnostic charts and the exploded views of subsystems with all the parts labeled. This site is invaluable for identifying potential causes of your problems and identifying the parts responsible so you can order replacements.

Appliance Aid offers a decent repair information section with detailed instructions for diagnosing and repairing many common problems. My biggest gripe with these instructions are they way they are formatted. More white space and some paragraph breaks would make these pages much more readable and, thus, more useful. In spite of that, this site provides excellent information on lots of different appliances and brands, along with a listing of manufacturers' telephone numbers and a section of appliance repair jokes for easing the stress.

Samurai Appliance Repair Man The Samurai Appliance Repair Man hosts a blog and a number of forums where you can ask questions about your appliance problems and get answers from the host and from other forum users. The Samurai Appliance Repair Man is occasionally sarcastic or satirical, but seems to give good advice. The forums are an excellent source of advice from experienced appliance repair professionals and do-it-yourselfers. He does ask that you contribute to his beer fund, though this is completely voluntary. It's a small price to pay for such good help.

Appliance Blog gives tips from an appliance repairman. The Appliance Blog also has asociated forums for quick access to other users' knowledge.

The Bad (Not Recommended)

Appliance411 is a Web site with no apparent purpose. It offers extremely limited help, and the forums are small and little-used. Parts listings are linked to RepairClinic.com.

ApplianceRepair.net is deceptively named. the only resources available here are printed and online manuals for purchase. It does have one feature of limited usefulness that lets you search for parts distributors by Area Code.

The Ugly (Don't Waste Your Time)

ApplianceStuff.com has VERY limited repair info. They have an online Parts Information Request Form, but no catalog.

Point and Click Appliance Repair is another site with extremely limited online help. If you purchase a part, they offer free help by e-mail.

Parts and Manuals

When the time comes to order parts, finding a trustworthy and dependable source is vital. These three sites offer online ordering and comprehensive parts catalogs. They accept major credit cards over a connection secured by Secure Sockets Layer technology. They all also have toll-free telephone numbers listed if you want to speak to a person.

RepairClinic.com is my preferred source for appliance parts. Their online catalog contains seemingly every appliance part you might ever need. If you don't know the part number or name or the maodel number of your appliance, their online Parts Detective will help you narrow your choices based on size, color, metallic or plastic, and location of the part in question. They keep virtually their entire catalog in stock and ship promptly. Highly recommended.

PartSelect.com carries an extensive inventory factory original or authorized replacement parts. They use several warehouses around North America, so parts can often be shipped from nearby for reduced shipping cost and fast delivery. The real drawback to PartSelect, and the consideration that keeps them from being my Number One pick, is that you must have the model number available to locate parts. Else, you have to browse through thousands of parts to find the right one. Since my washing machine, the appliance I spend the most time working on, has lost the plate containing the model number, this eliminated PartSelect from my top slot.

Appliance Parts Depot allows browsing to find the part you need by type of appliance, then brand name, then part description. Their catalog does not have pictures of many of the parts listed, so identification can be an adventure occasionally. AP Depot also has a Chat feature for help and support.

Do-it-yourself appliance repair is a good way to save money, if you have an adventurous mindset, and there is plenty of quality help available just a Web browser away.
